• Brad Lander declared victory in the Democratic primary for city comptroller. He beat City Council Speaker Corey Johnson by 24k votes. (Jeffrey C. Mays for NY Times)
• He's not the first speaker whose political career has seemed to end with that title. Johnson isn't the first speaker to lose a bid for higher office. He joins recent speakers Christine Quinn and Melissa Mark-Viverito in hitting a political wall. (Emily Ngo for NY1)
• Kathryn Garcia and Maya Wiley have both conceded to Eric Adams, locking in Adams's path to Gracie Mansion. (Samantha Maldonado, Josefa Velasquez, and Jose Martinez for The City)
• Garcia and Wiley both bounced pretty hard off the glass ceiling despite momentum, endorsements, and millions of dollars raised. The Times looks at their campaigns and how an alliance between the two, similar to the one between Garcia and Yang, could have led to a future Garcia administration rather than an Adams one. (Emma G. Fitzsimmons for NY Times)
• Brooklyn is getting a hard seltzer festival this summer because of course it is. Seltzerland hits August 7. (Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner for Time Out)
• Brooklyn Brewery is debuting a new hard seltzer because of course it is. (Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner for Greenpointers)
• Congrats to the Hudson Yards, which is the number one most expensive neighborhood in NYC. It was a tough year when they gave up the top spot to Tribeca, but they're back at #1. (Brick Underground)
• Purdue Pharma will shut down and pay $4.5 billion for its role in the opioid crisis. This was partially thanks to NY Attorney General Letitia James's office, which led to a 14 state lawsuit against the company. New York will receive at least $200 million for the next nine years. (Luke Parsnow for NY1)
• Manhattanhenge is back this weekend. You can see the full sun on Sunday and half-sun on Monday. The best spot in Manhattan is the Tudor City Overpass, but any street in Manhattan with an unobstructed view from East to West will work. (Shaye Weaver for Time Out)
• Dear whoever set up a mini crime scene around a pile of dog shit on the Lower East Side, I love you. (Elie Z. Perler for Bowery Boogie)
• New York is closing the Javits Center mass vaccination site. 54% of the state is fully vaccinated and it is turning to pop-up clinics in areas with lower vaccination rates. (Caroline Lewis for Gothamist)
• The best bars in the city where you can dance if you want to. (Nikko Duren and Bryan Kim for The Infatuation)

• Outdoor dining will last another year, allowing restaurants to easily set up tables and chairs outside on sidewalks and streets. (Erika Adams for Eater)
• The fight over the Associated Supermarket on Nostrand Ave in Crown Heights is ending with the supermarket returning to the lot once the new residential development is built. Had the supermarket closed it would have created a food desert in the immediate area, which spurred protests and support from elected officials. (Ben Verde and Ben Brachfeld for Brownstoner)
• If you're willing to go to Newark, you can catch a new direct flight to Paris for $139 from French Bee. That price includes a carry-on. (Will Gleason for Time Out)

• Photos: The Hometown Heroes ticker-tape parade. (Shaye Weaver for Time Out)
• Summer Streets are back this August. Seven miles of Manhattan streets will be car-free on August 7 and 14. (Devin Gannon for 6sqft)
• Remember the hack of the City Law Department from June 5? Well, it's still going on and there is no estimate of when it may be resolved. Lawyers still don't have remote access to case files and the office is still primarily remote. The department failed to comply with a 2019 directive from the city to implement multi-factor authentication and this is all the result of one person's email login and password being stolen. (Benjamin Weiser for NY Times)
• Video: Watch a black and white cookie get made. (Food Insider)
• The Times wants you to drop the stigma of looking like a tourist and look up once in a while! (Julia Carmel for NY Times)
