A Note From Rob: I have mixed feelings about linking to stories related to the twentieth anniversary of September 11, 2001, and they will not be included in The Briefly. • The federal government, through OSHA, is going to mandate vaccinations or weekly Covid-19 testing for companies with over 100 employees as well as all federal workers and contractors. The rule will affect about 80-100 million Americans. (Lauren Hirsch for NY Times)
• The city's vaccination mandate for teachers includes not paying teachers who do not have legitimate medical or religious reasons not to get vaccinated by September 27. The United Federation of Teachers has filed a complaint with the state but it's unknown how the federal mandate will play into this story. (Reema Amin for Chalkbeat)
• It took a photo tweeted by the NYPD of them illegally seizing bikes for City Hall to make a statement that the NYPD should not be illegally seizing bikes. The 107th Precinct tweeted a photo of them removing bikes from 141st St and 78th Road that were chained to city signposts, which is legal. To clarify, the NYPD isn't allowed to take your bike unless they give you a prior warning before doing so. (Gersh Kuntzman for Streetsblog)
