Note from Rob: I’ll be taking next week off from the newsletter and returning the day after Memorial Day, the five-year anniversary of when I started writing The Briefly!
• The Adams administration is considering using the Otis Bantum Correctional Center jail on Rikers Island to house migrants. Mayor Adams thinks that the city is "a victim of our success," and that's why more continue to arrive. (Matt Troutman for Patch)
• Gothamist looks at how the city is scrambling to house migrants again. (David Brand for Gothamist)
• There's something about the description of a recent call between Mayor Adams and members of the City Council that feels like the mayor may be descending into a place of paranoia and ineffectiveness. During the call, the mayor admonished council members for not having emergency shelters in their districts, despite the mayor having the authority to open new shelters. You also get the feeling that the mayor's "you vs me" attitude he took with the press early in his role as mayor may extend to everyone, including fellow politicians. (Ethan Tark-Miller for Brooklyn Paper)
• Sometimes, art requires interpretation. Sometimes the artist stencils "ERIC ADAMS YOU HAVE BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS" over a large red paint splash on the walls and ground of Broadway-Lafayette station. (Maya Pontone for Hyperallergic)
• Is it an odd coincidence that the head of the city's Campaign Finance Board is stepping down one day after fining Eric Adams for violations related to his transition and inauguration committee? Yes. Yes, it is. (Brigid Bergin for Gothamist)
• What the Hell: The NYPD arrested Harvey, a nine-year-old Yorkie after its human filmed the police. Harvey's human, Molly Griffard, was also arrested and has since filed a lawsuit alleging false arrest and imprisonment, retaliatory arrest, and her constitutional rights were violated. (Nick PInto for Hell Gate | archive link)
• Steve Cohen, the owner of the Mets, is already engaging in fuckery when it comes to the plans for a new soccer stadium in Willets Point. Cohen is using the necessary parking lots as a bargaining chip to get the city to let him build a casino. (Katie Honan for The City)
• The headline is Our City’s Billionaires Are Debasing Themselves for a Casino License. I believe they should debase themselves even more. (Kim Velsey for Curbed)
• Century 21 is back in the Financial District. (Aaron Ginsburg for 6sqft)
• Human Composting is legal in New York, but don't toss your dead bodies into the community garden yet. There are still details to be sorted out. (Samantha Maldonado for The City)

• Scumbag Rudy Giuliani is facing a two million lawsuit for lying about a back slap that resulted in an arrest for the back slapper. This is Nutsac Guliani's second lawsuit this week, as he's also being sued for coercing a woman into sex while she worked for him as an off-the-books employee. (Matt Troutman for Patch)
• I know the readers of The Briefly love sheep. That's why I'm here to tell you that the Governor's Island sheep landscaping crew is back. (Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner for Time Out)
• Did you know about the mini Statue of Liberty behind the Brooklyn Museum? It's moving to the Mid West. It's headed to St. Louis' National Building Arts Center. Also included in the article is the history of the statue, which started on 65th St and moved to Brooklyn in 2002. (Nicole Saraniero for Untapped New York)
• Nicholas Galanin's "In every language there is Land / En cada lengua hay una Tierra" is now on view at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's a 30-foot tall sculpture that looks like the iconic "LOVE" statue but instead says "LAND" in the same material used for the southern border wall. It'll probably be referred to as "the LAND thingy," but informed readers of The Briefly will know better. (Rossilynne Skena Culgan for Time Out)
• Where to Go: Mabu Cafe. What to Do: "This place serves some first-rate stoner food, usually involving some sort of gimmickry, in a room that leaves no opportunity for sensory overload left unexplored." (Scott Lynch for Hell Gate | archive link)
